Hungary Family Education Conference
February 26 - March 2, 2012
Sopron, Hungary
Come and join us for a week of learning and fun!
This conference focuses on families educating their children cross-culturally as they serve throughout Europe and Eurasia. Our desire is to have whole families together for interaction and enrichment.  Come and participate in workshops that will assist you in making informed educational decisions for your family. Examine new resources for educating children and consult with educators and counselors who care about your family’s unique needs. English (North American-based) achievement and diagnostic testing will be available for children. There is a program designed for each family member.

Plan to arrive on Sunday, February 26, after 14.00 and depart on Friday after lunch.

January 31, 2012 is the last day to register online. However, don't wait until then to register because the children's program often fills up and closes earlier.  After January 31, contact SHARE via e-mail or phone to check on available openings. We will send additional conference details in late January to all who have registered.

Programs for Teens and Children

Babies to teens will have age-appropriate classes with activities designed to reach all learning styles and taught by experienced educators. Infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers will receive loving care from a team of childcare workers and a fun program designed just for them.

What do the aye-aye, axolotl, emperor tamarin, and blobfish all have in common? (Hmm, you may need to Google some of these.) Why of course, they are all animals. Come join us as we learn about the Creator’s creatures around the world. The FEC Children’s Program runs parallel to the adult program. It is set up as an educational week (not VBS) full of information, hands-on activities and fun. We’ll have a whale of a time. So, get your ducks in a row and register before it starts raining cats and dogs. See you there!

Program leaders for the teens (ages 13-18) have planned a full week of activities, including a field trip, time to learn and lots of "hanging out" time.

*NOTE   Sorry, due to logistics and space limitations, we will not be able to move children from their age group to another group.  Thanks for understanding.
Educational Assessment
SHARE offers the following options if you desire an educational assessment for your child. All of the tests that are given are North American-based and normed to North American students.  Non-North American, English mother tongue students may benefit from the individual post-test consultation available to parents, though the scored results may not be a true indication of achievement due to cultural biases on some test questions.

You may sign up on the registration form for any of these options.  Payment may be made in cash or by check when you arrive at the conference.

Reading Assessment (grades K-2)
This assessment will provide information on the development of skills your child needs to become a successful reader. These skills include phonemic and phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Cost: Sponsoring Agency: $25; Non-sponsoring agency: $35; Others $50

Achievement testing (grades 3-11)
SHARE offers achievement testing for students ages 8-18/grades 3-12 to assess whether your child is “on track” with his or her age mates. The achievement test for elementary students will be given on Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 1:30 – 4:00. The test for teens will be scheduled so that they do not miss important events such as the field trip. Tests administered include the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and the Iowa Test of Educational Development. These tests offer assessment in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. SHARE recommends testing every other year but these tests are appropriate for families requiring or desiring annual testing.
Cost: Sponsoring Agency: $45; Non-sponsoring agency: $65; Others: $100

Diagnostic tests for struggling learners (ages 6-18/grades 1-12)
If you have observed your child struggling in reading, writing, or mathematics, appropriate testing will bring to light areas of strength and weakness. In some cases, these tests may identify issues that need special attention or further assessment. There will be a limited number of appointments with an educational psychologist for diagnostic testing.
Basic Diagnostic Testing with an Educational Consultant:
Cost: Sponsoring Agency: $120; Non-sponsoring agency: $150; Others: $200
OR
Detailed Diagnostic Testing with an Educational Psychologist:
Cost: Sponsoring Agency: $200; Non-sponsoring agency: $300; Others: $500

Language Disorders Assessment
If you have observed language/speech issues in your child, you may schedule an evaluation with a speech pathologist.
Cost: Sponsoring Agency: $25; Non-sponsoring agency: $35; Others: $50
